BINDER Program Controller Now Also Available for Simulation Chambers with Light and Humidity

As of March 1 2017, the new BINDER touchscreen controller is now also available for growth chambers with light and humidity as well as for constant climate chambers with illumination and light dose control.

Last October 2016 saw BINDER, the world’s largest specialist in simulation chambers for scientific and industrial laboratories, launch constant climate chambers in the KMF and KBF series with the new touchscreen controller for the first time. And now further series are following suit.


As of March 1, the new BINDER touchscreen controller has been added to growth chambers in the KBW series with light and the KBWF series with light and humidity as well as to constant climate chambers in the

KBF P series and the KBF LQC series with ICH-compliant light source and light dose control.


This state-of-the-art controller is incredibly intuitive to operate and the innovative features make it even more efficient to use. You can see all the functions required for day-to-day use clearly at a glance on the user-friendly 5.7” touchscreen and the smart menu is intuitive and easy to navigate.


The program controller regulates the climate conditions in the unit interior and can also be used to program temperature and humidity cycles as well as weekly and time programs in real time. The required values and programs are entered directly via the screen interface on the controller or alternatively via the APT-COM PC software developed specially by BINDER.


The new program controller is also extremely secure thanks to the password-protected access levels with various hierarchical authorization functions that prevent third parties from gaining unauthorized access. These levels can each be assigned their own passwords and access to the controller’s functions is locked until a user logs in by entering the correct password.


The controller also offers various status and alarm notifications with visual and acoustic indicators. When an alarm is triggered, an e-mail can be sent immediately to the specified e-mail addresses if you wish, and you can save up to three e-mail addresses.


The controller comes with a built-in USB port for configuring the unit, and exporting and importing data.  With a web server, it is possible to access the controller screen online, in order to view the event list or error messages, for example. However, due to the strict safety concept, it is not possible to make changes to the settings.

On January 1 2018, BINDER GmbH will launch the drying chambers and incubators, each in size 720 with the Avantgarde.Line technology. This means that the 720 liter heating chambers will now be on the same technical level as the 56, 115 and 260 liter units of the respective series. With the Avantgarde.Line technology, the BINDER drying chambers and incubators can withstand the highest loads in the scientific and industrial laboratories. With the air circulation system APT.Line, the temporal and spatial temperature accuracy of the chambers is absolutely precise. The 60-millimeter insulation of the units reduces energy consumption by up to 30 percent while increasing performance.


The BINDER chambers also feature an ergonomic handle design. The modern controller features an LCD display and provides a diverse range of functions with user-friendly operation. Global Good and Motic Introduce Breakthrough AI-Powered Microscope to Fight Drug-Resistant Malaria

Xiamen, China and Bellevue, Washington – Nov. 13, 2017 – Advanced microscope designer and manufacturer Motic China Group Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of Motic (Xiamen) Electric Group Co Ltd (SHE: 300341), announced recently that it has partnered with the Global Good Fund, a collaboration between Intellectual Ventures and Bill Gates to develop technologies for humanitarian impact. This new collaboration will create and distribute the EasyScan_GO*, a breakthrough AI-powered microscope to fight the spread of drug-resistant malaria and assist in case management. Using custom image recognition software, EasyScan_GO is capable of identifying and counting malaria parasites in a blood smear in as little as 20 minutes.

Every year, malaria kills almost half a million people, and researchers estimate nearly half the world’s population is at risk of contracting it. The rapid spread of a multidrug-resistant strain in parts of Southeast Asia is a particularly alarming development detailed by researchers in a letter published recently in The Lancet.

Accurate detection of severe and drug-resistant cases requires analysis of a blood smear by a WHO-certified expert microscopist, which takes roughly 20 minutes per slide. Automating the process with an intelligent microscope can alleviate the shortfall of trained personnel in under-resourced countries.

Field tests of an early prototype of the microscope presented at the International Conference on Computer Vision (ICCV) showed that the machine learning algorithm developed by Global Good is as reliable as an expert microscopist.

In fact, EasyScan_GO is currently being trained to recognize all species of malaria and the team is exploring its application to other parasites and traits commonly found on a blood film, including Chagas disease, microfilaria and sickle cell, as well as to other sample types, such as sputum, feces and tissue.
